House fire prevention
Here's how you can reduce the risk of a house fire:
Keep a CSA-approved fire extinguisher on each floor, in full view, near a room's exit or stairway. Ensure all family members know how to use it.
Switch off/unplug electrical appliances or burners.
Install at least one fully operating smoke detector on each floor of your home. It is recommended to place one smoke detector outside each sleeping area.
Test your smoke detectors once a month. Replace batteries every six months.
If a fire breaks out that you cannot contain in moments, evacuate your family according to a pre-rehearsed fire drill, and call the fire department or 911.
