VacationDuring the summer months, many of us enjoy vacation time with family and friends. Take precautions when you are away from your home or cottage to keep your property safe and your insurance coverage intact.

Maintain your insurance coverage

If you are going to be away from the property for more than five consecutive days, you must do the following to keep your coverage intact:

  • Arrange for a competent person to enter the building daily to ensure heating is maintained and to check for other possible damage.

  • Shut off the water supply.

Give it that lived-in look

Whether it’s your home or vacation property, unoccupied dwellings are especially attractive to thieves and vandals. In addition keeping your insurance policy valid, take the following steps to give your home the “lived in” look:

  • Keep curtains and drapes closed, and put your lights on timers.

  • Have your mail collected at least every 72 hours, and stop delivery on your newspaper.

  • Have someone shovel your snow in the winter, or cut your lawn in the summer.

If you are lucky enough to have a cottage or seasonal property, seasonal home plans offer you a broad range of coverage to suit your needs. For more information, speak to a Licensed Insurance Representative at 1-888-394-4964.
